Are Raw Vegetables and Fruits Safe During Pregnancy?

Are Raw Vegetable and Fruits safe during Pregnancy? It may seem like a silly question since vegetables and fruits are actually the foods that are the safest to consume during pregnancy. They are rich in vitamins and minerals and by going with organic options, you are really giving you and your baby optimal sustenance to grow and thrive.
However, eating them raw could be dangerous, especially if they are not washed properly. If not washed, you could increase your likelihood of contracting toxoplasmosis, which can cause severe consequences for the baby. This is definitely true for many foods while pregnant. Because of this, I will highly recommend consulting your OBGYN and getting their professional advice on this specific question.
Foods to avoid during pregnancy
There are tons of food lists available online to see what you can and cannot eat while pregnant. Most of them are pretty accurate. But what I found challenging was finding natural products that could help me wash my raw veggies and fruits. In Italy, for example, this is something that you can easily find at the supermarket in the baby section and it is a pretty common and standard for pregnant women to wash everything well.
Keep in mind that you don’t need to do this if the fruit has a peel. Just take it off and you can eat it safely.
My Recommendations
At first, I started using regular baking soda. I let them soak for at least 5 minutes, and then washed them again. What I found though, was during this procedure my food was getting soft, and at the end I was having a little bit of sour flavor. I won’t mention the raspberries after this cleaning process – it was kind of disgusting. So yes, it is safe and it is an option, but not my favorite route to take. Which brings me to my secret solution.
Today, I use ATTITUDE Hypoallergenic Fruit and Vegetable Wash .This is definitely an ideal solution that is easy, simple, safe, and mostly does not leave any residue to the food. What I usually do is spray everything and let it soak for about 5 minutes. In the meantime, I start preparing something else. Once the time is up, I then wash it off, and the veggies and fruits are ready to be eaten, safe and raw.
Bonus Trick
In addition, I have the last little trick that I want to share. I don’t normally do it since I tend to peel everything, but if I want to take an apple or a pear to the office without peeling and cutting it, I boil a little bit of water and I put it on the fruit to take off all the wax. I then use the attitude product, I wait a couple of minutes, wash it, and then I am ready to go.
What About You?
I hope this was helpful for you as it is for me. However, I am curious to know if you do have any other little tricks. If so, please feel free to share it as I am eager to learn more and more about the best safest option for healthy living.
