Newborn Diapers Guide: How Many Diapers Do I Need?

How many newborn diapers do I need? Well, I’m guessing this is the question that plays in every new mom head. In fact, one of the biggest fears of a new mom is that she’ll run out of diapers. This is one item that you cannot go without. They’re essential to deal with the little mess your baby creates.

To make sure you never run out of diapers, stock up on an adequate amount, depending on how old your baby is. You will eventually start with 10-12 diapers, and then gradually use less as your baby’s bladder grows. To ensure that you never run out of diapers, I’ve mentioned an estimate of a diapers stocking guide that I used as well.

How Many Diapers Do I Need?

Diaper size chart

Once you’ve decided the type of diaper your want, whether disposable or cloth diapers, you can start planning your diaper stockpile. Make sure you use toxic free diapers to keep your baby safe. If you use disposable diapers, prepare yourself to use more than 3000 diapers in the first year. This may increase as your baby grows. If you’re going with a monthly subscription of a specific diaper brand, then they will send you the right amount as per your baby’s size.

If you’re buying individually, you will have to make sure to keep up with your baby’s weight and age, as this determines the diaper size. It is not easy to regularly stock up on diapers, as there will be days where you notice you have run out, and that’s completely normal. Similarly, your baby may fall sick and  require more diaper changes. To help you stock up properly on disposable diapers, we’ve mentioned an estimate of how many diapers you will need according to your baby’s age and weight.

Tips on Stockpiling on Diapers

No matter what chart or diaper guide you try to follow, you may run out of diapers at one point. It is no use worrying, so make sure to go easy on yourself. New moms tend to make a few mistakes, so try your best to learn from your mistakes to become a more responsible parent. Below are a few tricks I’ve mentioned for stockpiling on diapers:

  • Track Your Baby’s Growth Rate

You don’t have to over-stock your baby’s nursery with diapers, as this does take up a lot of space. Instead stock up according to their weight and buy the appropriate diaper size.

  • Go for Diaper Bags

If you want to stock on a sufficient number of diapers, then I would recommend going for diaper bags instated of boxes, as bags contain more.

  • Consider Gender

Diaper sizes and usage may vary according to the gender of your baby

  • Don’t stock up one size

Newborns grow faster, which causes their diaper size to change rapidly. You should stock up accordingly.

Takeaway

Hopefully, this diaper guide will help you stock up on enough diapers so you don’t worry about running out. Make sure you don’t go overboard with stocking up, and choose high-quality, environmentally-friendly diapers that are safe to use for your little one.
